Your High School Story:

Really enjoyed high school, especially Bit and Spur, Senior Scouts (Mariners), skating, and friends. Didn't know many people in my division since I went to a really small grade school. Mainly hung out with other kids that were into horseback riding.

I remember Dagney Bloland looking really alarmed one day when I said I hadn't done my homework or something because I was riding. I think she worried about that much more than I did.

What were you in High School?

Other President Bit & Spur, President Sr. Scout group

Who did you have a crush on while in High School? And Why? Did you ever date him/her?

We hung around in a big group in high school, not really dating. We rode, skated, danced and went to movies together. I think that was great, too bad kids today seem not to do that so much. Good friends were John Meyer, class of 64; Kathy Miller, 65; Patti Sullivan, 62; Terry, Kenny, Mike, etc. Too many good friends to name.

Who was your favorite teacher/s and why?

Dr. K, who made me feel I could pass Honors chemistry. Thanks to him it was a breeze in college. Mrs. Cantierri (sp?) who was so kind when I just couldn't get algebra, and pretty much all of my English teachers. Also of course, Mrs. Hauri who was the sponsor for Bit and Spur. Liked German class and first majored in that in college.

What teacher/s did you dislike and why?

Don't remember disliking any. Probably did though.

Were you a member of any sports teams? If so, which one/s?

Bit and Spur

What is your favorite memory or memories of AHS?

Dances in the gym. Wow, can't remember now, was it on Friday or Saturday nights? Not the Homecoming dances, just once a month or something.

I thought we had a really good college prep curriculum and a good counselor. Because I had Dr. K for chemistry, I thought college chemistry was actually easier than high school.

What Elementary School did you attend?

Key Clark (Clark branch of Francis Scott Key)

Your Elementary School Story:

I went to the smallest school in the city of Chicago. Our graduating class was the largest in some years - 12 people! I really liked our school but it seemed that when I got to Austin kids from the larger grade schools had learned more advanced math than we did (algebra). Because I was in a different division and different classes, I never saw the kids I graduated with from grade school, so lost track of everyone.

Did you go to College?

Yes

If Yes, Where and When?

SIU 1965 - 1967 then Illinois State University

Level of Education

Masters in Sociology

Did you go to a Technical School?

No

What have you been up to since you graduated from High School?

Worked for 2 German Wine companies, worked for 2 universities, raised kids, moved a lot (husband in administration, higher education), traveled (middle son married girl from Spain so must visit there!) and now starting our own winery.

Have you ever been on TV?

Yes, interviewed when I was Executive Director for Illinois Grape and Wine Resources Council.
