Had a boyfriend in my class. Every day he would walk me home, and pretty much every day we would have a fight on the way. Then he would go home and call to make up. Not the best relationship! I've been married 43 years and we don't fight.

What is your favorite memory or memories of AHS?

We were in an honors division, and spent all four years with the same 25 kids. After graduation, everyone scattered and the boundaries of the district were changed about a year afterward. Then the neighborhood started to become a different place. I was the second generation in my family to attend Austin. My mother and her brother, and most of their cousins, all grew up in Austin. This was once a beautiful, safe neighborhood. It's sad what has become of it.

What Elementary School did you attend?

Emmett

Your Elementary School Story:

All at Emmett. Real neighborhood school. Came home for lunch, or met my mother at Bunny's on Madison and Parkside. I was the only girl in the science club in the 7th grade (with Mrs. Moran)

University of Chicago 1964-1966, Roosevelt University 1966-1968

Some College

Did you go to a Technical School?

No

What have you been up to since you graduated from High School?

Went to the University of Chicago for two years, and then transferred to Chicago Musical College at Roosevelt University to major in voice. I have four plus years of credits, but never completed my graduation requirement, having been stymied by the piano proficiency required by all music majors. Then I got jobs selling cosmetics at Carson Pirie Scott, and later at Marshall Field's for a short time until I was hired by Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a Benefits Counselor. I passed a test they gave, and they trained me to be a computer programmer in an arcane assembler language called ARGUS. After awhile they switched hardware and I learned to program in COBOL, BAL and RPG. I left them after four years and took other jobs, one of them at the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, before leaving to have a family. I didn't re-enter the workforce until my younger daughter started college, and then I went into my husband's law office to help out with clerical. We now spend about half of our time in Fort Myers, FL where I can do my office work remotely.

Have you ever been on TV?

Only in high school, on a student panel on Channel 11, and once when our High Holiday choir was on TV.

Hi Bob,
My husband and I have been in San Francisco visiting our grandchildren and so we missed the reunion. I looked at the photos that were posted but without captions, I didn't recognize anyone. It looks like everyone had a great time. Heading back to Chicago today, and to Fort Myers in a month where we spend most of our time. I can't believe it's been more than fifty years since Austin. We were just at a party in Oak Park and drove through the old neighborhood. It's barely recognizable. My old grammar school, Robert Emmet, is all boarded up, and so many of the buildings I remembered are gone. My house is still standing but it has a fence around it and the court building to the south of it has been replaced by another apartment building. It's a dangerous area to say the least.

Happy Birthday! I sat behind you for four years because of our last names. Now it has been more than 50 years. Where has the time gone? Have a great one!
