Diane was a dear friend and over the years we were able to share many wonderful times, and some not so wonderful times. I was able to visit her at Cook County Hospital after a terrible work related fire, and again in aProvidence Rhode Island hospital after an auto accident that seriously injured her, her sister Bette and claimed the life of her husband Patrick.  She was an amazing person who always managed to rise above her circumstances.  She finished college, got her phd and raised her son Marc alone.  She had worked at several universities and at one point was a department head, and even in April she was mentoring ph.d. candidates.

Diane was a wonderful, strong woman,  who decided quantity was more important that quality..  I was fortunate enough to have gotten to visit with Diane at her home in Tampa in April right after she got the diagnosis.  She knew her situation was not good - she was stage 4 - and she was not a candidate for surgery, but she was resolved that quality was more important than quantity.  We just had no idea at that time that quantity would be so short.  She is being buried in Tampa on Sunday, May 15.  Anyone wanting information on the funeral can contact me by emailing me at this website.

I remember Diane as a welcoming friend who enjoyed life and story telling with a good sense of humor.

She was a survivor of the fire at her workplace in Chicago.  I visited her at Cook County hospital and was amazed at her resilience with a patch of pig skin as part of the healing.  She said her mom brought her meals each day because the food was so bad at County.

Her courage in the face of the loss of her husband was inspiring.

She welcomed me into her Memphis home when our paths crossed in Tennessee.

She was always gracious and I will miss her sunny disposition and our talks about higher ed, a shared passion.

I remember Diane from Emmet and Austin. Saw her last summer at the Emmet reunion. So sad when one of our own passes. May her memory be a blessing to her family.

I also was a '65 classmate of Diane's as well at Emmett, I believe. Always very saddened when I hear about fellow classmates that have passed away. My deepest regrets and condolences to her family.

It was wonderful to reconnect with Diane at the last reunion.  Such a gentle, upbeat person, with a delightful sense of humor.  The world is diminished by her passing.
